About The ASUC
Statement of Purpose
The main purpose of ASUC is to develop, promote, and regulate professional
student governments and activities. ASUC functions as a resource for
funding and assists in the coordination of activities and events sponsored
by RCOs. ASUC also sponsors a variety of social, cultural and educational
events throughout the year.
Who Runs ASUC?
ASUCSF is under the auspices of the Director of Student Relations and is
directly governed by an Executive Board that consists of seven student-elected
officers, elected school presidents of Dentistry, Medicine and Pharmacy,
and representatives from 6-10 RCOs. These RCOs most broadly represent
diverse cultures, races, ethnicities, and sexual orientations at UCSF.
All members of the Board are full-time registered students of UCSF.
How Does ASUC Operate?
The Executive Board meets monthly to review progress
on activities, programs and events, make decisions on funding requests
and address campus needs. All meetings are open to the campus and community.
Students who wish to submit agenda items can do so 10 days prior to meeting
date. For the date and time of the next ASUC meeting, call 476-2010 or
drop by the ASUC Office.
ASUCSF Executive Board meetings shall be official when there is a quorum of Executive Board members present. A quorum consists of one-half plus one of the Board members. Proxies for an Executive Board member is allowed. However, each proxy must be approved by a majority vote from the Executive Board at each meeting
Meetings of the ASUCSF Executive Board are conducted informally. Decisions are made by a 2/3 majority vote from the Executive Board. In instances where there is a dispute over participation or procedure, Robert’s Rules of Order shall be the final authority.
How Does ASUC Allocate Funds?
Professional School Student Governments Allocation:
The ASUC Board annually allocates at least 25 percent of the ASUCSF fees
to the professional school student governments on a per-capita basis.
These funds are dispersed and expended according to University accounting
policies and the ASUCSF School Government Fee Share Guidelines.
RCO Funding:
Student RCOs can obtain funding for organizational expenses, orientation
events, UCSF student recruitment, and social activities. The ASUCSF also
provides funding for RCO administrative support expenses such as photocopying,
postage, and basic office supplies.
To be eligible for ASUC funds, RCO events must be open to all UCSF students, be non-discriminatory, and be predominately educational in purpose. All allocations are made by a majority vote of the Executive Board.
For additional information and to obtain budget request forms, visit the ASUC Office.
Elections
The ASUCSF election occurs annually during Winter Quarter. All candidates
for an Executive Officer position must be full-time students at UCSF
and must submit to the ASUC Office a petition for candidacy with twenty-five
names, signatures, and social security numbers of currently registered
students. For each Executive Officer position, the candidate receiving
the majority of eligible votes cast will be elected into office.
If an Executive Officer position is vacant after the elections are conducted, the vacancy shall be filled by presidential nomination and approved by a 2/3 majority vote of the Executive Board. Elected Executive Officers are required to attend at least one Spring Quarter ASUC Executive Board meeting for the purpose of gaining familiarity with the Board’s procedures and significant contemporary issues.
